I won't account for my reader's choices but I think this is probably the most adorable craft I've ever done in my creating den here! Sure, macarons are one thing. They're gorgeous. They're the symbol of charm+cute everywhere on instagram and they look just about everything look prettier.
But when macarons go sneaky and house a lip balm on a keychain dangling on your favorite tote?
Adorable. That's the only word which comes to mind.
These DIY macarons? They'll be your girliest DIYest keychain yet. With function added, see? Go swoon!
(Not someone girly? :okay: *looks down heartbroken*)
DIY Macron Keychains
You'll need:
-Lipbalm pot(s)
-Air dry clay. I recommend white
-Acrylic paints and paintbrushes to go along, preferably in Pastel shades
-Glossy/Matte finish modpodge
-E6000 or any other heavy duty adhesive
-A keychain attachment
How-To
1.Remember my Eiffel Tower keychain from my DIY Ring Catch-All? Well, I used the closure of that keychain after I used the tower for my DIY. Simply affix with E6000 the end of the chain to your lipbalm pot's lid and let it dry.
2.Meanwhile roll out your clay into a ball and flatten it out like you're preparing dough. Roghly eyeball a circle which will be required to cover the entire lid making sure there's more volume of the dough at the top creating a slightly domed shape like how macarons have. Don't worry about the dough's texture since it naturally resembles that of a just baked goody! :)
Make sure you mold the clay extra carefully round the part where you adhered the keychain onto the lid.
3.For the actual pot, since my lip balm was a strawberry one, I decided to leave a few millimeters of it as is to replicate the look of raspberry filling. Leaving a few millimeters aside from the top, I repeated the procedure in step two and molded the pot to create the second half of the macaron.
4.Macarons can never look all that classy without their feet, can they? So get the back of your paintbrush to do the job for you. I simply made some ridges by subtly jabbing it using the paintbrush's tip at the perimeter of these darlings - and the more imperfect they are, the better!
5.Time to haul out those paints and go crazy! I love a selection of pastels so much for macarons like blush pinks, sunny yellows and limes. Make sure you do a couple of coats so that the paint doesn't crackle up later. Add a glossy modpodge coat to seal it all it or a matte finish according to your preference.
ALTERNATIVES:
If you're not more of a fashionista but one of those pretty workoholics, try using these as simply paperweights. No need for secret compartments inside. Just some keepsakes on your desk or to give to your buds. You can also deck up your dresser by using mini plastic containers instead of lip pots and following the same route. :)
Wind your keychain onto your fav purse and you're ready to flaunt it hon'. Dry lips? You know where to get that moisture infusion now in a jiffy!
Happy rejoicing!
XOXO, Nash
