INSPIRATION NATION // 16 TRENDY ESSENTIALS FOR THE #GIRLBOSS!

You see them spanning your newsfeed in Instagram, their sassy lifestyle bits cropping up on Pinterest and their fun Snapchat stories and you're pretty much one yourself (or are on the road to being one) but girlbosses are now gaining recognition and they are here to stay. That being said, no such charming lady can function flawlessly at life without having her own manwomancave which is where I've come to help.
Whatever your style may be, you'll fall in love with at least one of these beautiful essentials every lady needs in her private comfy nook. My style has to do all with balance, having loud, make-you-look-twice pieces coupled with understated beauties, modern in vogue pieces paired with a little vintage decor and finally pieces that invoke relaxation therapy while others that get you all upbeat. Have a look!

PS: None of the mentioned products are sponsored whatsoever. Let's get that straight first. :) Okay, now have a look.

16 trendy essentials for the #girlboss! #inspiration #office #decor #chic #girlboss
1.FABULOUS SEATING FOR YOUR GIRLGANG:
Remember I said we're trying to be a modern stylista here with luxurious vintage pieces here and there? I think on the whole counter stools are a better bet than a couch because they'll keep your work mode going at the table with the girls. I found these charming vintage wrought iron ones (which come as a set of four <3) from Chairish with a quirky palm print.

2.UPLIFTING SUCCULENTS/FRESH FLOWERS:
Okay fresh flowers/planters are just a given. You simply cannot have a haven without them. I'm reaching out to succulents like these a lot more than flowers these days but it's up to you. They add a vibrant color pop as well. Remember those macrame planters that are bombing pinterest? Time to put some DIY skills to test.

3.A FAB WOVEN RUG:
Rugs = comfort after an exhausting day. If you don't have time for a pedicure, you make sure at least your rug pampers you. This feminine hemp-woven Indian rug from Society Social looks solidly gorgeous and does the job too. (And it's Fair Trade)

4.AN ENGAGING COFFEE TABLE BOOK
Coffee table books can spark a lot of inspiration if chosen right. They're even the perfect companions for someone who visits your den while you prep some things up for them all the while showing your amazing style. Anna Spiro's Absolutely Beautful Things is the coffee table book which just screams to be flipped through.

5.A CLASSY OFFICE TABLE
You'll never feel long drawn out working hours if you have an office table you absolutely adore. If you need more space to pack in stationery make sure you have some storage but this gold and marble table from cb2 doesn't weigh down valuable room space and feels luxe. (or get an identical one custom built, simple enough to do)

6.CHIC DESK ACCESSORIES
Kate Spade desk accessories have suddenly seemed to gone too mainstream in decor roudups and Instagrammer favorites which is why I chose the same gold flair with a little more oomph. This stylish file rack is part of a whole range from Anthropologie and yep, the others look just as divine.

7.GORGEOUS CATCH-ALL ACCESSORIES
Have one huge tray to showcase your collectibles or multiple mini ones like these to store different pieces, but you absolutely need to have a go-to knickknacks storage space.

8.A STYLISH TABLET/PHONE CASE
More than anything, this is a huge expression of who you are so make sure you're sending the right message. Whether you are an understated elegance kind of girl or a bold and colorful lass or maybe even both, Society6 has a darn huge collection of all kinds of gorgeous gadget cases. I just adore this one.

9.AN ECLECTIC ENSEMBLE OF PILLOWS
Ah pillows, prop them against your back or tastefully arrange some throw pillows on the floor for extra seating, but; don't play safe. This is one territory where you should definitely experiment, so mix and match away! I've combined some from Studio McGee here and a tasseled pillow from Target. As you can tell by now, I'm absolutely digging palm prints. (Hey- it's summer!)

10.THE ULTIMATE  GIRLBOSS MUG
Because your morning cup of addicting coffee brew should also double up as your inspiration for the day. Some searching around and I came across these really pretty girlboss mugs

11.THE FUN ACCENT WALL
O.M.Goodness. How can I not have known about these guys before? Since we are keeping everything else patterned/colorful, I decided to go with this simpler cheeky, dotty wallpaper but you could paint the accent wall a coordinating solid color (cue: Pantone's colors of the year are superb) or choose one from this gallery. Instant room pick-me-up!

12.EMPOWERING ART PRINTS
Society6 again. If you are not checking out their or even Minted's collection of Art prints you are honestly missing out on bouts of energy boosts! Check out the ones featured in my round-up here, here, here & here.

13.PRETTY MIRRORED STORAGE
You can keep everything else pretty affordable but splurging on one of these babes will magically turn the entire room expensive looking. I found this mirrored storage to be great for the price and it is 60% off. (or go check out some Youtube tutorials and convert an existing Ikea dresser to a mirrored spectacle)

14.ELEGANT PENDANT LAMP(S)
Okay, so the site does not feature a price tag for these pendant lamps and you need to send an enquiry for these to the designer, BUT they were just so gorgeous I couldn't resist. Metallics always combine beautifully with everything so if you're undecided on what kind of lighting to go for, I suggest golds or coppers for finishes.

15.THE CUTE TO-DO LIST
Rifle paper co. had to make it to "this list". They make some of the cutest and also well-known stationery around so to-do lists or agendas, whatever your pick, gives you the sublime satisfaction of ticking things off at the end of the day and give yourself a pat on the back.

16.A WHIMSICAL MIRROR
Because at the end of the day or whenever you head out, you should look at  yourself and have a little you got it girl pep talk with your reflection. Definite essential for me. ;) How beautiful is this mirror from Lulu & Georgia?

What are your essentials? If you are smitten by any of these, pin and share around!

Have a lovely week and follow me:

THE DECORISTA CHRONICLES // 4 ROOM DECOR IDEAS YOU NEED TO TRY!

Let's start with a drumroll! Four delicious projects you can use to give your room a glam update! These are all whimsical projects which add a classy or dreamy flair and they are all terribly simple. I've gotten inspired by Bando so much recently, decided on buying their gorgeous agenda and while that arrives, I'll make do with some DIY bando themed projects. That being said, Kate Spade is still on my wishlist but her lovely storage boxes are way out of my budget considering all of the other art supplies I'm continually purchasing. That is where Gold Spray Paint comes in - our Xena Warrior Princess for everything DIY and everything Kate Spade inspired.
Craft A Doodle Doo - 4 Chic Room Decor Ideas You NEED to TRY! #easy #chic #room #decor #ideas

We are making everything from dainty bell jars to house your prettiest accessories or craft supplies to hidden hollow book storage that is so cheery it will always put you in a good mood. Next we'll be moving onto dressing your ceiling with some greens that can are easy to install and easy to remove. Great for parties or just for seasonal room decor for a fresh burst of the outdoors :a hanging origami garden! In the end, we'll wield that gorgeous can of gold spray paint, add hot pink and orange accents and with a little help from Ikea, craft some fabulous storage to hide all your treasures in.

Let's get started, shall we?

DIY WHIMSICAL BELL JAR

You'll need:

-An empty glass jar.
We will be inverting this later so make sure there is no text embossed at the bottom of the jar. If there is you might probably have to cover it up with either fabric or wrapping paper. I used an empty tomato puree jar and it was just the right size to upcycle without any text at the bottom.

-A saucer or the lid of a discarded container. I used the lid of a cotton swabs container.

-A ring or a small bauble. You could use a decorative bead or faux pearls

-Heavy-duty glue/glue gun

-Lace or washi tape

What you'll do:

1.Begin by sanitizing the jar and the lid and then drying it. Next invert it and eyeball the center of the base. Glue down the ring or the faux pearl at the center.

2.If you're using a saucer, skip this step but if you're using a lid then, again, invert it and along the circumference run some lace or washi tape to add a touch of fancy. Additionally you can also spray paint the saucer/lid in a metallic color or neon.

3.Add in your display items to your new belljar. I think lipsticks would look the cutest as displays. What do you think? ;)

THE DECORISTA CHRONICLES// SUPER PRETTY BRACELET & WATCH STORAGE

Following feature prima of my Vanity Rehab series, here's one which may remind you of one of my other quite popular DIYs. Remember this DIY Ring Box I made over here using hair curlers? The idea is the same, but this one's for all your arm candy. Yup all that stash of bracelets, cuffs, bangles and watches.
I think by far, given by supernatural prowess to hoard bangles and bracelets, I've developed quite a collection of bangles. Is that just me? Or do other people too have one specific jewelry item they buy monumnetously more compared to other jewelry? Annnyyyhowwww....

Inspiration Nation//DIY Vintage Storage!

Checklist for things I love:
-Maroons and reds
-Florals
These storage boxes

My love for everything vintage themed needs no introduction..what can I say...it just, happens :) Anyhow, we had loads of very sturdy boxes lying around in which 'thobes' come in. (know thobes? It's the traditional white garment guys over here put on. But that's not what we concern ourselves with,is it?it's what they come in!).
The best thing about these is that they are super dent-proof, wear for ages and perfect to chuck in craft supplies, no wait....anything!
Here's how I made mine!

Like this? Pin it!

I made a set of three beautifully coordinated boxes. At my local craft store we get rolls of adhesive paper (each for about 2$ approx.). The deep red box has been covered with a velvet textured red adhesive paper. It feels just like velvet but it's actually paper not fabric with an adhesive backing! How cool is that? ...and if you've been dawdling on my humble blog previously, you would have seen how many, many, many times I use these kind of rolls,
The third box is a glossy adhesive roll with a delicate floral print (for 2$ too) and the first is a thrifted floral pillow cover. (or should I say it took only about half of the pillow cover? :D). The pillowcase set of 2 cost me 2$ which would make this for 0.5$! You just need to scout 'em shelves ladies!

The Decorista Chronicles//Sweet Hanging Organizer DIY

Back then with all the photoshop fiddling, I realized that one of my all time oohlala combinations is fresh roses and black n' white stripes! I just can't seem to get enough of the vintagey (that's not a word, I know) sweetness of the roses paired with the modern edgy stripes! So, in my quest to relive this combination in someplace besides my free paper printables (download 'em here!), this adorable hanging organizer was born - from pillowcases!
Let's first peek in on my own inspiration shall we, girlfriends?
Okie, back to the DIY now, you'll just need two pillowcases for this, either the same pattern or two different coordinating ones. I'm not sure whether you'd want to sew up really pretty pillowcases to make a really pretty organizer but if you're single (aha!) and there's lonely pillowcases hangin' round your home, this is for you. If you found some awesome pillowcases at a thrift store, this is for you. If you are a dorm room girl this is for you and if you are a lover of cute things, oh this is DEFINITELY for you!

Apart from the pillowcases you'll need: some basic beginner sewing skills/sewing machine. pins to pin the fabric in place while sewing, a pencil to mark the fabric, a pair of scissors and a hanger in a coordinating color with the pillow fabrics. I had a white hanger and I painted it a bright red-pink to cheer me up!

HOW-TO
NOTE: This is just a 5-step process and I  tried really hard to make it as simple as possible for beginners (cuz' sheh I'm such a dork at this whole sewing business too), so please don't let this scare you cuz' it's really simple and if you do have any queries, drop me a comment below!

1.Begin by cutting folding your pillowcase around 7 inches over one side like this. The printed side should be folded over the plain side as in the picture below. (If your pillowcase is printed on both sides, then just fold over one side onto the other across a length of approx. 7 inches)
2.Then run your sewing machine (or sew by hand) along both the 7 inch sides. I did a zingzag stitch for a more graceful edge (wee!) and make sure the seams are just touching the edge.
If you are not much of a sewer then use strong good quality fabric glue along the border of the pillowcase and fold in. Then fold seven inches over and glue down thoroughly over the just folded- in border. The below picture will help you understand.
This should form one pocket of your organizer; you can do as many pockets as you want, I think two is great for hanging just about anywhere if you're using small-medium sized pillowcases.

3.Next fold your second pillowcase exactly as in step one above (don't sew the edges yet!) and place it on above the first pocket-you-made's flap so that they overlap.

4.Mark a line with a pencil for the depth till where you'd like your first pocket to overlap the second one.  (The first pocket you'd sewn actually goes on second in the organizer and the second pillowcase you sew "over it" is the first pocket after the organizer is done). Then sew along this line. Remember to sew along ONLY the base (and not over the folded side too) of the second pillowcase to the base of the top of the first pillowcase so that these both are now stitched together.
Once both are attached you can now sew the sides of the second pocket just like you did for the first.
NOTE (SEQUEL): You may have noticed that in the pictures the floral pocket is ABOVE the striped one. That's because when I took the pictures for the process I had decided to put the striped one first but later interchanged them as I though floral on the top looked better. (indecisive much? Yep)

5. I don't have pictures for the last step but it's really straightforward. Fold the topmost edge of the entire organizer over the rung of the hanger and stitch at the back or apply fabric glue.

Alternatively, you can skip the whole sewing/gluing process depending on what you're doing and instead punch holes on the side edges of both the pockets and loop through a ribbon and tie taut, like this.
And that's all there is to it. Strut your stuff to the organizer and hang it anywhere you'd like with adhesive hooks. Right now mine's hanging down on the wardrobe knobs! :)
The floral fabric was designed by me, so overjoyed at how it turned out and I'm thinking of uploading the design on Spoonflower. What do you think? Beauty or beastly?
If you liked this simple and cute DIY, do share it with all the other girlies in your life out there and pin this!

Inspiration Nation// DIY Stationery/Makeup Brush Roll!

Helllooooooooooooooo!!! Part four of the Design Your Series is now here! Check it out!
Do you have leftover mismatched stationery that makes your workspace looked cluttered? Or maybe you need to sort out some itsy bitsy stationery that comes in singles? Either way, you don't wanna lose that one paintbrush or color pencil that always seems to be disappearing! Maybe you'd like a gorgeous lil travel companion! This is PERFECT to sort out your stationery as well as makeup brushes and other essentials PLUS it's so thrifty it's made right out of a pillowcase! Excited yet???

You'll need:
1. A thrifty pillowcase cover
2.Scissors, measuring ruler and ball pins
3. A sewing Machine and some matching (to the fabric) thread reels
4.Ribbon coordinating your pillowcase
5.Your mum, if you're less than a sewing newbie!

Steps:

1.I'll assume this step for the general size of most pillows. You'll want to mentally map out the length of your pillowcase into four equal parts. Fold over one-fourth from one side and then fold over again. Cut across. So now you have half the length of your pillowcase. Put the other half aside as we won't be needing that anymore.
2.You'll have an uneven edge from where you cut one side of your fabric. You'll have to invert the about half an inch inside so the uneven edge isn't visible and sew over.
3. On this just stitched edge, place the ribbon end at one corner (wrong side down with right side up of fabric) and sew over till you reach the other corner with the rest of your ribbon trailing.
4. Remember we left the other side of the ribbon trailing? When you come at the edge of the length of the fabric, you need to count 7 inches from there and form a loop with those seven inches; then secure the formed loop at the same corner of the fabric. This is what it looks like.(Now again we have the rest of the ribbon trailing after the stitched loop)
5.Mentally divide the fabric into one-thirds.Fold over a third of the fabric (with the ribbon trim showing) and pin the folded flap down momentarily. Then mark dividends (wide or narrow) with a ruler and pencil according to the width of what you want to stuff in. (I did a combination of both narrow and wide pockets to fit an assortment of junk I've piled up!)
6. Make creases by folding the fabric just to get an idea of where you have to sew.Sew vertical lines aligning with the marks you've mapped out to form the pockets.
7. All done! Now tuck in your pencils or brushes and roll over the fabric! Reminds me of a yum chocolate cake roll right now, but then, I'm such a loyal chocoholic!
To secure the roll, cut off the trailing ribbon as much as the length it takes to go twice over the roll, form a loop and knot it with the previously sewn loop. Do this and check how much length it takes and then trim your ribbon!
That is how you knot the ribbon at the end. I hope you get the idea!
Time to tuck in your mismatched pencils and give them their own lil' home!
Not a crafty chic? You can still use these for your compact mirrors and makeup brushes for on-the-go!

I hope the tutorial was clear enough for you folks! If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to drop over a comment! I would also love to know which function you think this serves better!

The Decorista Chronicles//DIY CUBBY SHELF ORGANIZER {Design Your Own Series-3}

Good day class! As part of the thrifty+glam makeover editions we do in the Design Your Own Series..we present you part 3-DIY Glitter Cubby Shelf Organizer!

Like the caption reads, this is a stylish, dirt cheap and easy solution to gather round your essentials. Here are the basics:

Steps:
1.Spray the corkboard with adhesive spray and sprinkle on glitter to cover whole. Do two-three coats to make sure the glitter stays put for a long, long, long, long, long time.

2.Best to use empty colored duct tape rolls if you don't want more work put into this. I didn't have those on hand so I covered mine with adhesive velvet fabric, and painted one hot pink with acrylic paint for a bright pink POP!*

3.Hot glue the tape rolls onto the board.Set a few hours to dry.

4. Use heavy duty foam mounting tape (and loadza that) on a wall, shelf side or anywhere you'd prefer these to grab n' go in the morning and install your finished cubby shelf unit.

5.Chuck your go-to essentials in, use it, flaunt it, pin this and share this!

*Painting gives a shabby look and feel to your "cubbies"

EXTRAS: Use broken jewelry pieces like earrings, or studs from necklaces and hot glue them to push pins to display notes on the corkboard. You'll never know when you'll need an emergency loving pick-me-up. ^_^
