The Decorista Chronicles//Faux Vintage China+Jewelry Display DIY

Vintage china jazzed up with some bling bling! I knew I was falling in utter love with all the vintage china popping all over pinterest. There were two particular pinterest boards that happened to pop up in my suggestion box that had all this unbelievable eye candy. I then knew I had to come up with my own wicked clever china wall decor but i also had to wrap up the Wardrobe Stylist series, and this baby? This baby is what I ended up with!

Except that it's displayed on the side of my closet. A fancy home for all my especially fancy jewelry ready to be nabbed from their cubbies when I dash off to college! I'm not sure whether this would be last feature of this series, I may just end up with one more feature which is conjuring up in my mind, so for now, have a dive in the inspiration and scroll down for the steps!
Let's begin by whipping up some of our own faux vintage china, easy enough to do!
Here's what you'd need!
1.A few cheap plastic plates, choose the reflective kind if possible cuz' they give off a glassy sheen which is what we need!

2.Temporary tattoos resembling vintage florals.

3.Adhesive gold crystals. I found mine at a craft store I frequent but I've seen 'em at a lot of other craft stores too for very cheap.

4.Strong glue strips or mounting tape squares. Make sure they are good quality so that they adhere well.

5.Command hooks, the mini ones actually (optional)

6.Scissors, craft glue,pencil and ruler
For the teacup

7.Foam or foam like material
8.Felt/adhesive velvet
9.X-acto/craft knife
10.Small plastic teacups (also at craft stores)
As you see, I've got my teacup (made using the same method as the plates)and a block of foam right here. What we wanna do is measure the diameter of the cup across and use that to cut a conical block of foam;so that the circle at the end of the cone has the same diameter as that of your cup.
Next, we just glue in and fit the foam into the cup so it's snug and tight!
Lastly, take your felt/velvet and cut it in a circle to fit at the top of the foam gaping out of your teacup. Using your X-acto knife slit two lines to fit in two rings (or if you have a bigger sized teacup, slit a line extra).Fit in your rings to see if the slit size works.
Trying it on!
I did a little trial arrangement of my plates because I'm impatient  to see my progress in action. All I did was to get a tiny bit of test mounting tape at the back of my plates and sorted them round to see what works best for me. Also, affix the teacup to one of your plates using a glue gun or uber-strong craft glue.
PRO TIP: If you can't find the adhesive crystal strings, then just pick a gold paint marker and outline your plate, It looks beyond beautiful!
For the decorative hoops:

1.Inexpensive embroidery hoops
2.Pretty fabric ( I made my own using this tutorial)
3.Pin hooks
4.Foam/Corkboard sheets
.................................................................
Pitch the fabric in between the hoops and cut your cork board/ foam to size (if your fabric is very thin) and fit it snugly at the back of your hoops and you're good to go.
A little extra I did so that I can house my bracelets and necklaces was to use these pin hooks onto my hoops.
And you're done! For some extra storage pizzazz, add transparent mini command hooks to your vintage plates. I couldn't find in my area at the moment (they're never there when you want 'em I tell ya!).
And the keyword here darlings, is heavy mounting tape because you don't want your porcelain and china falling down and crashing (well, of course they won't crash and become smithereens, but anyway..). So make sure you pretty ladies get a good quality mounting tape that will survive the dinosaurs, yes, I think you get the idea now.

Ladies, this corner in my room is the most glamorous one for my go-to jewelry. I have a reasonable amount of jewelry which I've organized in many ways but I love this one the best because it's so feminine and enchanting with the vintage vibe and the glittery metallics!

Keep smiling and adieu for now!

The Decorista Chronicles//DIY Makeup Brush Holder!

Hello Sunshine!
Because my university would be starting in a while, I though I'd get my get-ready-in-the-hectic-mornings station more organized. You all know how I made a chevron glitter vanity tray for that very purpose sometime back. So I thought I'd go ahead and make some matching makeup brush holder(s) with it too. Now I don't own a lot of brushes which is why I made just one. And I wanted to go a bit different than the other tuts out there and not smother the whole jar or can in glitter (altho' I'm SUCH a fan of that too); so I settled with a diamond glittered pattern. Here we go! :)

The Decorista Chronicles//DIY Ribbon-Tie Vanity Basket!

Haven't we all wished for that drop-dead gorgeous vanity? (Ladies, that question was for you!). This ribbon-tie vanity basket was gifted by me to my darling mum who was more than thrilled to have it. It sits now on her vanity and practically rules the place (read:the dressing table). It organizes her perfumes, makeup and lotions and reminds her that she has a "kinda" sweet daughter!

The Decorista Chronicles//DIY Closet Organizer!

Ah, closet organizers.Ever wish you'd have just that teeny bit of extra personalized storage without having to buy anything?
Here's a beautiful vintage+mod closet organizer for those dainty scarves, purses and accessories or even those grab n' go ones!
Make as many panels of these as you'd like and whip up some cute lil' extra for your closet doors without the extra bucks!
DIY closet organizer-in-door style!
You'll need :
-Bottle caps equal to the number of knobs you’d like to have on your organizer
-A pair of scissors and a craft knife
-Pretty Scrapbook paper/Giftwrap paper cut to circles approximately sized to the bottle caps
-Heavy-duty (double-sided) mounting tape
-Washi tape or paint
-A couple of pencils
-A ruler
-Cutting mat
-Glue gun/Super glue (not pictured)
-Wood (I used balsa wood; it’s incredibly lightweight and adds a lovely woody texture). You can also use MDF, foam board or heavy cardboard.

Instructions:
1.Begin by cutting out the circles to go over the caps' surfaces. Next, if you don’t like the color of your caps; either paint them to co-ordinate with the circles’ patterns or simply use washi tape (like I did) along the rim.

2. Next glue on the circles to each of the (painted) caps, add washi tape and keep aside. Use your wood to measure the width of your closet door.

3 Pencil in the size for reference and begin cutting the exact size that will fit in your door panel

4.Now, place the caps aligned and at equal distances onto the wood. When you are happy with the arrangement, hot glue ‘em down.

5.You don’t have to worry about your jewelry bungee jumping off the knobs because I promise you hot glue is gonna do the job tough!

6.Use the mounting tape on the bare side of the wood and secure the wood to your door panel.

7.Hang on your fav accessories, reach out for them when you need to pretty up, stay organized and have a fun color blast in your closet!

So today class, we shall learn to create our own custom-designed ribbons!
Uh-oh, of course,Aloha!
Dudettes, I had a really hectic week this time, so that meant I couldn't do a post in all this while which by the way is basically why I have something very fun and simple for you today, but wait, wait, ask the end result!
Freakin' pretty! Take a look yourself!

And I tell you what, with this tutorial I give you a bonus freebie, but you have to wait for that till the end, buhahahaha!

Ahem, anyway,
as I was saying, on those days when old Mr. Washi Tape is finished, or maybe suddenly it's too expensive, apart from those cute designs which are hard to do on ribbons, you can actually create endless designs in practically minutes on ribbons that are already probably dangling somewhere in your pretty lil' nest or (congratulations!) if they are neatly arranged in your nook prolly' waiting to smothered in loveliness!

Ima show you crafters how to do a few designs right now, and gonna top on a few other designs you could try yourself, so here goes, we're doing polkas, dye-effect stripes, floral n' herringbone!

 Ahan,

I get you, I get you, the clutter's piling up , no wait, overflowing you say? Don't worry your pretty little mind, I've got just the the thing for you!

There used to be a warzone underneath, above, to the left, to the right (you get the gist) my craft corner, well, it's not really a corner, otherwise it would've been worse.

Then I was rescued, by myself.

This post is really gonna speak out to you. Why? Because I'm not gonna show you the two solutions I did, I'm gonna give you alternatives.
I think you guys deserve alternatives, cuz' not everyone has the same stuff handy, some of you hoard (wink) on other things, so I'm gonna give you a bunch of other clutter busters that'll rock, bigtime.
Even if you don't hoard, if you buy this stuff, it's gonna come cheap, ready?

The Decorista Chronicles-DIY Chevron Glitter Vanity Tray!

It's been a while since I wrote but hopefully, this is a good comeback! I'm one of those people who doesn't have a whole lot of luxury time to get prim and pretty in the morning and that meant in all the bedlam that my morning routine saw, most of my makeup and accessories were lying in an ugly jumble!
I ignored and ignored and ignored it, even with this DIY in my mind for weeks but never really got down to it since I was battling with exams in my university, until now.....
Enter this glitzy 'n glam vanity tray! For those of you who've played around with the lethal glitter n modpodge combo before that turns anything to fab, this is self-explanatory.For the other party, I've listed the instructions via pictures!
This looks soooooooooo darn su-weet sitting on your vanity, it was a major update to the cluttered space by my mirror which now looks all organized and blingy! (...and girly, if you're into that sorta thing!)

First up, here's the instructions in pictures!

1.Grab a shoebox lid/old tray/picture frame.Vintage picture frames look gorgeous.Shoebox lids are obviously cheaper, but I didn't have the other two, so I went with the lid.Next, a pair of scissors, a ruler to cut the paper to size, masking tape, gold glitter (any color really), and velvet textured adhesive papers (available at craft stores.), If not at hand, go for velvet or felt!Other supplies include craft glue, and a transparent plastic sheet.Oh yes, also a paint brush (not pictured)

2.Wrap up the lid in the velvet textured adhesive sheet.Smooth out any creases, (Tip:Try not to be impatient like me)

3.Try to make a tidy-as-you-can chevron pattern with masking tape. I was initially gonna use double-sided tape, and just sprinkle all the glitter on top but I couldn't find my double-sided tape roll! -_-

4.Take a clean paint brush and brush on a generous amount of craft glue on to the untaped areas, one at a time. Do the first one, sprinkle glitter, then the second and so on;otherwise your glue will dry up.

5.Wait for the glue to dry, Do two-three coats. If you find any area peeking, add a lil glue with a toothpick and a pinch of glitter over it.Let dry.

6.Cut the transparent plastic sheet to size.Snip off any weird corners or edges, Readjust, dot a little clear-drying glue at the corners.Press down firm.

7.Done! If you want, up the pretty quotient by adding a trim of coordinating washi tape around the lid's perimeter. Now just corral all your everyday essentials into the tray and enjoy your new easy-peasy glittery creation!

PS:I've made my new freebie collection and that would be the next post in case you've been waiting for it all this time!I'm also starting a new series called "The 5 minute Craft Spree Series" for crafts that can be done in five minutes or less.

If you used a shoebox lid like me for this project and are wondering what to do with the shoebox check out this rad way to dish up extra vertical wall storage!

See you next time,
Nash xoxo!

The Decorista Chronicles-DIY Cubby Shelves!

Are those little beads and glitter caskets getting lost all the time? What about those bobby pins, cotton balls and makeup sponges? Here's a nifty, easy and simply gorgeous way to sort all those itsy bitsy dainty things out, save decent counter-space, and get ready for your next project or dolled up hassle free while doubling up as beauuuuu-tiful statement shelves at the same time!

But first, let's see an overview of what we are aiming over here, and all there is to it is clustered in this picture below! So simple and such a cute, fresh addition to my craft nook!

STEP 1:Gather your supplies!

A pair of handy scissors, pretty wrapping paper (download pretty ones here and here),plain white paper, craft glue, white spray paint, empty cardboard boxes and mounting tape(not pictured). Here's a hint, if you do online shopping you'll probably have a lot of discarded boxes which may not always be pretty to look at.In the picture, you can see my box (and the lid!) housed a watch once, it's small but sturdy, so choose those which are nice and sturdy, not flimsy!

STEP 2: Spray spree!

Time to spray paint them all over carefully in the color you want and let 'em dry a good while.I like white cuz it goes with my room and looks nice.tidy and fresh!

Don't worry about any rough edges, we'll fix that in a while. For now, make sure the paint coats are uniform. If not, go over them once again!

STEP 3:Template twist!
Now cut out a sweet, chic heart template to use as the guide to cut the wrapping paper for the side of your boxes!

Fold your white sheet in half, draw as neatly as you can half a heart, unfold and cut out!

STEP 4:Using the template!

Impose the template on your wrapping paper and cut it out.Cut out as many as the boxes you are using for cubbies. Keep them aside for a bit and proceed to step 5!

STEP 5:Wrap in a snap!

Go over the inside walls and the middle front of the base of the box.If you want you can do the top and bottom too, I went for white sheet though! When you are all done, make sure those rough edges are dealt with, they should be if you've wrapped fine enough, if you made a few glitches, go over in those spots with a bit of white paint.Paste on your cut out hearts too on the sides!
\
STEP 6:Wall 'em up!

Time to mount your cubbies on the wall!Use a generous amount of masking tape and tape horizontally or vertically at the back of your "shelves".

Make sure they are held firmly to the wall. The more the quantity of mounting tape, the better!

STEP 7:Sorted!
Fill 'em up, flaunt your teeny jars of beads, glitter, hooks and needles! Or use miniature colorful disposable cups or trays and fill to the brim with bobby pins, cotton balls and hair bands!

I organize my tubes of sequins and glitter in the two cubby shelves I made, and some washi tape that couldn't find place in my DIY washi stand!
Remember, weight of the items you put in the shelves depends on how sturdy the boxes are and the quality of mounting tape!
So remember to go easy on the load if you are not sure of how much your cubbies can withstand!

Eye candy anyone? Here we go!

Oh, and just in case you happen to be wondering about the huge flowers, dancing stems and leaves beside the shelves, that's the decal on my wall :)

Hope you give it a try, and do let me know it this inspires you to do anything else! I would love to know your ideas too!
Till next time,
xoxo, Nash :)
