THE DECORISTA CHRONICLES // 4 ROOM DECOR IDEAS YOU NEED TO TRY!

Let's start with a drumroll! Four delicious projects you can use to give your room a glam update! These are all whimsical projects which add a classy or dreamy flair and they are all terribly simple. I've gotten inspired by Bando so much recently, decided on buying their gorgeous agenda and while that arrives, I'll make do with some DIY bando themed projects. That being said, Kate Spade is still on my wishlist but her lovely storage boxes are way out of my budget considering all of the other art supplies I'm continually purchasing. That is where Gold Spray Paint comes in - our Xena Warrior Princess for everything DIY and everything Kate Spade inspired.
Craft A Doodle Doo - 4 Chic Room Decor Ideas You NEED to TRY! #easy #chic #room #decor #ideas

We are making everything from dainty bell jars to house your prettiest accessories or craft supplies to hidden hollow book storage that is so cheery it will always put you in a good mood. Next we'll be moving onto dressing your ceiling with some greens that can are easy to install and easy to remove. Great for parties or just for seasonal room decor for a fresh burst of the outdoors :a hanging origami garden! In the end, we'll wield that gorgeous can of gold spray paint, add hot pink and orange accents and with a little help from Ikea, craft some fabulous storage to hide all your treasures in.

Let's get started, shall we?

DIY WHIMSICAL BELL JAR

You'll need:

-An empty glass jar.
We will be inverting this later so make sure there is no text embossed at the bottom of the jar. If there is you might probably have to cover it up with either fabric or wrapping paper. I used an empty tomato puree jar and it was just the right size to upcycle without any text at the bottom.

-A saucer or the lid of a discarded container. I used the lid of a cotton swabs container.

-A ring or a small bauble. You could use a decorative bead or faux pearls

-Heavy-duty glue/glue gun

-Lace or washi tape

What you'll do:

1.Begin by sanitizing the jar and the lid and then drying it. Next invert it and eyeball the center of the base. Glue down the ring or the faux pearl at the center.

2.If you're using a saucer, skip this step but if you're using a lid then, again, invert it and along the circumference run some lace or washi tape to add a touch of fancy. Additionally you can also spray paint the saucer/lid in a metallic color or neon.

3.Add in your display items to your new belljar. I think lipsticks would look the cutest as displays. What do you think? ;)

THE DECORISTA CHRONICLES// DIY PAPER TULIPS!

I simply adore tulips! It's a rarity here to ever get to buy some because roses are the conventional go-to flowers here when it comes to fresh decor so I thought of making a bouquet on my own. These are so easy to make, just four steps and you're done! Not to forget no watering required! Cover the stem, cut out paper strips, fashion them into petals and wind them around the stem!

If you're looking for an quick evening of gorg paper flower creations or a cute diy floral bouquet to gift to someone with a special note, give this one a try! I'm sure they'll send the significant other in fireworks!

DIY Paper Tulips- These add such a vibrant pop of color to any room and are great as gifts, not to forget, you'll never need to water them!

Crafting tulips can be slightly trIcky since they are more bulbous at the bottom and tapered at the apex but this is the lazy-girl's guide and we're always looking for shortcuts, aren't we?

Here's mine:

DIY PAPER TULIPS

DIY Paper Tulips- These add such a vibrant pop of color to any room and are great as gifts, not to forget, you'll never need to water them!

You'll need:

-Very light-weight colored paper on the flimsier side so that the petals fluff up and look more ruffle-y (You can even start with white and dye it later so it looks more natural). Mine is hot fuchsia.

-Florist's wire. If you've never done flowers before you may use regular wire or pipecleaners or even wooden skewers (but they'll give a stiffer look to the stems)

-Green duct tape/washi tape/florist's tape to wind around the stem.

-Some cotton for the "centers" of the tulips.

-Scissors, glue, a ruler and a pencil.
DIY Paper Tulips- These add such a vibrant pop of color to any room and are great as gifts, not to forget, you'll never need to water them!

How-to:

1.You'll first need to cut your wire to size for the stems and wind them with whatever kind of tape you're using. Don't cover the entire length and leave a little at one end and turn it over itself forming a loop.

2.Dab a little glue here (on the loop) and press over the cotton covering the wireframe we just made entirely. Cut a 1.5 inch. by 1.5 inch square and wrap it over the cotton and secure with glue so that it's completely covered.

3.Here's the fun part. I had an A3 sized colored sheet so I folded it in half and drew the dimensions of the strips around 2x5 inches. Draw lines using a pencil and a ruler demarcating each strip and cutting them out. You'll need six of these dimension-ed strips per tulip.

Since I'd folded my paper beforehand, when I cut one strip, I ended up with two.

You'll then fold each strip on half to make a crease and unfold it. Then twist the strip scrunching it along the middle. This gives both halves of the strip the curvature of a spoon (which we are aiming for) and thennnnnn fold the bottom half over the top half.

After you've done that, snip off the squarish frame of the petal in a curve to make it's perimeter more rounded.

DIY Paper Tulips- These add such a vibrant pop of color to any room and are great as gifts, not to forget, you'll never need to water them!

4.To adhere the petals around the center and aim for the more bulky part at the bottom, wind the first three petals taking the narrower part of the triangular petal shape as the top of the petal and the wider traingle base as the bottom of the petal. Then for the next three petals, adhere them around successively as inverted triangles. (Base of triangle as top of petal and narrow part as bottom).
DIY Paper Tulips- These add such a vibrant pop of color to any room and are great as gifts, not to forget, you'll never need to water them!

And we're done! Just fluff up the petals and play around with the shape a bit so that the petals look more tapered at the top and puffier at the bottom. If you'd like to add leaves, cut oblong organic shapes and twist the ends gluing them to the stem. I just ran out of paper to do that. :^(

TIP: To add a fancy punch, I used a polka dot envelope and folded it into a cone and wrapped it around the tulips. I'll be writing a special note on the cone's interior as a special surprise. So if you're gifting this, that's something you can do to brighten up their day Sherlock Holmes style.

THE DECORISTA CHRONICLES | KATE SPADE KNOCKOFF NOTEBOOKS!

Let me just begin with what my heart hoots everytime I rest my eyes on one of those Katespade cuties - OHMYGOSH. I always needed one, but making one myself was far more easier. I'm not one for planners but I do like to have myself a couple lots of notebooks to do doodling and jot down creative ideas.

DIY Kate Spade Notebooks can't be easier! #diy #glam #KateSpade #notebooks #easy

So onto the making:

DIY KATE SPADE KNOCKOFF NOTEBOOKS

You'll need for this DIY:

1.Black cardstock. You can also use black acrylic /spray paint buuut I found cardstock less messy

2.Gold paper. You know, just be creative with this one. I used some from a Godiva Chocolate gift box.

3.A Hole punch, Scissors, pencils, super glue, matte/glossy finish modpodge and a ruler

4.White paper (optional)

5.Binders/Notebooks/Notepads/Agendas that need glitzing up

How-To:

1.For the striped notebook: Stripes are my next favorites to florals, and Kate's black and white stripes top the list. I cut the cardstock into 3 cm. wide strips to fit the length of my notebook. I first had to cover my book with some white paper and you'd have to too if you are not beginning with a white one already. ;)

Line them up parallel marking with a ruler and pencil the white space's width equal to 3 cm too between the black stripes/stripes.

Give the whole cover a glossy finish of modpodge to give it that whole "Kate-Spade-y" luxe look. ;)
This acts as a sealant too and protects the whites of your cover.

2.For the gold polka dot: Punch circles through the gold paper and eyeballing equal spacing between them on the notebook, glue them down. Place the dots for the next line in between dots of the first line. Keep alternating them and seal in everything with a layer of modpodge again.

THE DECORISTA CHRONICLES// SUPER PRETTY BRACELET & WATCH STORAGE

Following feature prima of my Vanity Rehab series, here's one which may remind you of one of my other quite popular DIYs. Remember this DIY Ring Box I made over here using hair curlers? The idea is the same, but this one's for all your arm candy. Yup all that stash of bracelets, cuffs, bangles and watches.
I think by far, given by supernatural prowess to hoard bangles and bracelets, I've developed quite a collection of bangles. Is that just me? Or do other people too have one specific jewelry item they buy monumnetously more compared to other jewelry? Annnyyyhowwww....

DECORISTA CHRONICLES// DIY RING HOLDER

So this quick beauty was so easy to dish out and the outcome was so fabulous that I simply couldn't resist snapping away pictures! And you probably do have an Eiffel Tower souvenir or something right, right? No? Okay, well you can use a miniature souvenir from some random famous tower of your own country or tiny lil toys stolen from your kid/sibling/unknown child across the street. I was about to use stray chess pieces spray painted gold on a faux lil chessboard first, but that idea went whoosh when I remembered this darling key chain, just hibernating in one of my drawers.

Who can resist an Eiffel Tower ring dish? Plus, it's such a good daily catch-all if you're a ring, or even an ear-rings-ish kinda person. And of course, the dish has to be overdressed, because nothing can ever be over-dressed for me when done right. In short, here's a nice way to organize your rings!

DIY Ring Holder #diy #jewelry #organization #idea
It's also literally the simplest, glamorous way to make a squeal-worthy gift for you mum/sister/daughter/friend/lalala.

DIY Ring Holder #diy #jewelry #organization #idea

Did I mention this is Part 1 of my new series called : Vanity Rehab?

Just sayin' but in case your vanity needs an update, love, you can keep coming back for some more ideas. I've done so much more jewelry organizing posts here and realized I'm good at that sort of thing + I hoard a tiny bit more every few months so I'll be posting on more ideas especially dedicated to that.

Onto the diy,

You'll need:

-Decorative beads. gems etc. Even ones from a broken bracelet.
-A tall-ish small souvenir/miniature keepsake etc. (read above if you were lazy and skipped everythin')
-A lid, circular cardboard/glass/plastic base(or maybe even a coaster. And no, it doesn't HAVE to be circular. It can be octagonal, your choice.)

Just for trivia, I used one of those small golden cardboard *things* that come underneath store-bought pastries here. Don't ask me why I kept that. (I'm a diy blogger.)
-Glue gun/super-glue
-A small mirror (smaller than than the base). Just for some added glam-factor.

How-to:

Even tho' this is pretty self explanatory, here we go.

1. I started by using a gold marker to paint around the black rim of my round mirror (which I prized out from my used compact case.)

2. Eyeball the center of the cardboard base and hot glue the mirror over.

3. Start from the diametric middle of the mirror and hot-glue your gems around going alternatively.
Meaning you stick one gem to the right of the first one.

And one gem to the left of the first one.

Just so that it gives each one good enough time to dry and they don't budge later.
DIY Ring Holder #diy #jewelry #organization #idea

4 Clean the mirror.I removed the tower from the key chain and hot-glued its legs in the center of the mirror.
If your keepsake comes in atrocious colors, just paint/spray paint it gold, silver, neon, pastel because all those things are in. Or just do whatever you like.

DIY Ring Holder #diy #jewelry #organization #idea

Ta-done. Done. Stack up the rings and stare at it everyday while you dress up!

DIY Ring Holder #diy #jewelry #organization #idea

Have fun!

THE DECORISTA CHRONICLES//DIY 3D WALLART INSPIRED BY RIFLE CO.

Wallart again :) Aren't we always looking for some quick low-budget ways to brighten our walls that look droolworthy? Recently I've been getting floored by all the Rifle Co. mixed media art (pretty much dominating my latest likes on Pinterest!) and I think it's so utterly gorgeous! So today, let's recreate some of that on our very own walls and imagine ourselves as Miss Fancy Painting Pants!

Let's take a look at the inspiration for this DIY

I didn't want as much of a botanical overload as in the art above though. (The references to the images are in the end of the post)

Materials:

Fake flowers cut off from the stem's start/Handmade paper flowers*
Scissors, super-glue, a pencil and a ruler
Paints/Sharpies or any other markers that deliver vivid color
An empty, shallow cardboard box/A shadow box

*More on that in step 2

How-to:

1.If you're using a cardboard box like me instead of a shadow box, you'll want to deck it up a bit. I did the outside and inside edges with some mod black and white washi tape to balance all the color to come. (You can also use some metallic gold to do the edges to give more of a luxe look).

Snip off any awkward edges jutting out.

2. I wanted to give more of a handmade effect so I made handmade paper roses by using this template from The Elli Blog. It's absolutely addicting to churn out one fabulous rose after the other!(thanks Lia!)

3.Next, bring on the typography! I used my own handwriting but you can also print out your favorite quote in any font you choose (except Comic Sans, because that's just....comical) and paste it on the base of the box.
(If the base of your box is not white, you can layer it with some white paper or any other coordinating color of choice)

4.Begin playing around with the arrangement. You have two options here, either glue down the roses or draw the botanical stems first . Personally, I'd recommend doing half and half. (wait, that just made it three options.) I drew some of the stems before; this gives a raw idea of where you want the flowers and then added in more leaves like they are popping out from the roses underneath.
Make sure your roses at the base are a tad bit flattish (flat, flatty, flat-ish? Lol) so that they adhere properly. If they are not, snip off a bit of the end so that they are not so pointy, and then dab a generous amount of glue.

5. Add in a few more 2D elements like buds in the same color as that of the roses to unify the whole art. You can add more visual interest by corralling up different objects like buttons and sequins onto the art but I left mine as is since it would look too cluttered up.

And you're done! (If you're looking for even more contrast, use a chalkboard background for the artwork. Splendid any route, I say!)

I'd actually like to share a bit of a cute disaster at the project's beginning. When I was printing the paper rose template in pink, the printer ran out of ink and printed the petals in various colors of pink and of course, the roses turned out even prettier because they looked all the more natural with so many different shades! (Haha, adapting, like a boss)

The larger the surface area of the background, the greater options you have for filling in.
There ya' go. Create one and make your momma proud.(with all respect)
In hindsight, choose as sturdy of cardboard as you can to avoid the slightest of bending.
If you liked this DIY, consider sharing it on Pinterest! Meanwhile, I'm super-excited to tell you that Craft A Doodle Doo will be starting a newsletter. It'll round up on the current month's DIYs and inspiration and the most popular DIY from the previous month + other ideas and tidbits!

In the meantime,

I apologize for not posting since two weeks straight since I've been literally aping around in between my exams and had to painfully push the blog on the backseat, but I'm back now and will be posting every week or so as usual and to really make it up to you I'll be posting a wonderfully simple DIY and freebies next week, so stay tuned!
